WE UNDERSTAND WHAT IS IMPORTANT
Genuine and trusting relationships.
Did you know that there are over 400 types of therapeutic interventions in clinical therapy?
These interventions range from Freud’s psychoanalysis to variations of cognitive behavioural therapy to mindfulness therapies and beyond. How do you know which one is right for you or your child?
Beyond the Gold Standard.
At Meadows Therapy we use an eclectic approach that draws upon multiple theoretical orientations and techniques in order to best meet each client’s unique needs. We provide trauma-informed care and incorporate several of the “gold standard” talk therapy interventions such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Solutions-Focused Therapy (SF). We also provide other highly effective evidence-based interventions such as Somatic Experiencing, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Brainspotting, and Mindfulness-Based Interventions.
Why do we incorporate such a broad array of interventions?
1) Because what works for one person may not work as well for another. Also, sometimes one type of intervention is insufficient but when combined with elements of another intervention, real change begins to occur.
2) While talk therapy interventions are great tools to help individuals gain insight and knowledge and learn new skills, there is no substitution for the therapeutic relationship. Studies have shown over and over again that the most important variable that predicts positive outcomes of therapy is the healthy attachment relationship that is created between client and therapist through empathy, warmth and genuine care. This means that the success of treatment does not depend on which intervention is used, it depends on the ability for the client and therapist to connect on a deep level so that the client feels validated, heard and supported.
